Cambodia Tourism Board Expands Global Tourism Campaign: What Should Businesses Know?

Cambodia is stepping up its efforts to reshape its image as a world class travel destination through a comprehensive international marketing strategy led by the Cambodia Tourism Board. During the first half of 2026, the board rolled out a wide range of promotional activities across global markets to attract more international visitors, strengthen industry partnerships, and position Cambodia as a modern, diverse, and competitive tourism destination. The initiative is designed to benefit not only the tourism sector but also businesses, investors, entrepreneurs, hospitality operators, and travel companies seeking new opportunities in the Kingdom.

CTB goes global to transform Cambodia’s tourism image

According to the Cambodia Tourism Board’s latest semiannual report, released on Friday, the organization is implementing a four channel marketing strategy that targets travelers, travel businesses, governments, and strategic partners. The long term approach aims to modernize outdated perceptions of Cambodia while generating sustainable tourism growth through global media exposure, airline partnerships, travel trade engagement, and international cooperation.

A Four Channel Strategy to Reach Global Markets

The Cambodia Tourism Board has adopted an integrated international marketing strategy built around four key business channels that allow it to promote the country more effectively across different audiences. These include Business to Customer, Business to Business, Business to Business to Customer, and Business to Government.

Each channel serves a distinct purpose while contributing to a shared goal of increasing Cambodia’s global visibility. Together, they create a coordinated marketing ecosystem that educates travelers, strengthens industry relationships, expands travel distribution networks, and builds stronger cooperation with tourism authorities around the world.

Global Media and Influencers Help Refresh Cambodia’s Image

One of the board’s primary focuses has been direct consumer engagement through its Business to Customer strategy. This approach promotes Cambodia’s tourism attractions through international media coverage, digital marketing campaigns, social media influencers, and film tourism initiatives that showcase authentic travel experiences.

During the first half of 2026, the Cambodia Tourism Board welcomed representatives from ten international media organizations, including Wonderlust, SG Media, The Guardian UK, and the South China Morning Post. It also hosted 20 content creators from Australia and India, allowing them to experience Cambodia firsthand and produce authentic stories that introduce the country’s culture, heritage, nature, and hospitality to international audiences.

Travel Trade Partnerships Open New Business Opportunities

Beyond consumer marketing, the board has intensified its engagement with the global travel industry through its Business to Business channel. Familiarisation trips, international travel exhibitions, roadshows, and sales missions have been organized to strengthen relationships with overseas travel companies and encourage them to include Cambodia in their travel packages.

Since March 2026, 145 international travel agents have been confirmed under the ambitious 500 Agent FAM Trip Program. The board also participated in 17 international travel trade exhibitions and six sales missions across Austria, Spain, Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, India, Beijing, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and South Korea, helping expand Cambodia’s presence in important tourism source markets.

Airline Partnerships Strengthen International Bookings

Through its Business to Business to Customer strategy, the Cambodia Tourism Board has partnered with major international airlines and travel platforms to increase awareness and encourage bookings through joint promotional campaigns.

Strategic collaborations with Singapore Airlines, AirAsia, EVA Air, Etihad Airways, and Turkish Airlines are expected to improve Cambodia’s international connectivity while making it easier for travelers to discover and book trips to the Kingdom. These partnerships also create valuable opportunities for hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, and tourism related businesses to reach a broader global audience.

Government Cooperation Supports Long Term Tourism Growth

The board is also strengthening international cooperation through its Business to Government channel by working closely with tourism boards and international tourism organizations. These partnerships are intended to support knowledge sharing, joint marketing, and long term tourism development.

To further strengthen Cambodia’s tourism competitiveness, the board introduced three major initiatives. These include the 500 Agent FAM Trip Program, an Event Matching Grant that helps local events attract international visitors, and a Film Location Scouting Program designed to encourage international filmmakers to choose Cambodia as a filming destination. These programs are expected to generate broader economic benefits across tourism, hospitality, creative industries, and local communities.

Tourism Growth Requires Time to Deliver Results

While the Cambodia Tourism Board has significantly expanded its international marketing efforts, officials acknowledge that measurable growth in visitor arrivals will take time. International travel planning often begins several months before departure, meaning promotional activities typically produce results over a longer period.

The board explained that international travelers generally book trips between three and nine months in advance. Likewise, travel agents participating in Familiarisation trips need additional time to develop, market, and sell Cambodia travel packages before increased visitor numbers become visible.

Industry Leaders Welcome the Global Campaign

Tourism industry leaders have praised the Cambodia Tourism Board for taking a proactive approach to promoting the country internationally and strengthening its global competitiveness.

The private sector believes these initiatives will help improve Cambodia’s international reputation while creating new business opportunities for hotels, airlines, travel agencies, restaurants, investors, and tourism entrepreneurs.

Why This Matters for Businesses and Investors?

For businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, and tourism operators, the Cambodia Tourism Board’s international marketing strategy signals growing confidence in the country’s tourism sector. Stronger global branding, expanded airline partnerships, increased travel trade engagement, and international media exposure are expected to generate more visitors, stimulate hospitality investment, create employment, and support wider economic growth.

As Cambodia continues building its reputation as a premier destination in Southeast Asia, businesses that invest early in tourism related services, accommodation, transportation, entertainment, and digital travel solutions may benefit from the country’s expanding international tourism market.

Conclusion

The Cambodia Tourism Board’s global marketing strategy represents one of the country’s most comprehensive efforts to strengthen its international tourism brand. By combining media promotion, travel trade partnerships, airline collaborations, government cooperation, and innovative tourism programs, Cambodia is laying the foundation for sustainable tourism growth. Although the impact on visitor arrivals will take time to materialize, these initiatives demonstrate a long term commitment to positioning Cambodia as a leading destination for travelers while creating new opportunities for businesses and investors.
