At present, Cambodia has seven hydropower plants in operation, of which six are located in the southwestern part of the country. Potential for hydropower construction.
These locations include: Atay Russey Hydropower Dam, Chrum Kamchay, Kirirom 1, Kirirom 3 and Tatai Hydropower The other is the Lower Sesan 2 hydropower plant in Stung Treng province in northeastern Cambodia.

It is Cambodia’s first hydropower project to be restored in 2002 with a capacity of 12 megawatts. The dam is located at Stung Chral Mean Dam in Phnom Sruoch district, Kampong Speu province and the hydropower station in Kampong Seila district, Preah Sihanouk province..
CETIC International Hydropower Development Co., Ltd is the first investor in Cambodia’s $ 26 million hydropower project.
Kamchay Hydropower Plant, Kampot Province
Kamchay Hydropower Plant, Kampot Province
It is the second hydropower project with a generating capacity of 194.1 megawatts and the second hydropower project in Cambodia. Launched in 2011 under the high presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, invested by Sinohydro Kamchay Hydroelectric Project.
Kirirom 3 Hydropower Plant
This is the third hydropower project with a capacity of 18 megawatts and the third hydropower project in Cambodia. Launched in 2013, it is located along Stung Proul River, a tributary of Prek Kampong Som in Dong Prek Commune, Sre Ambel District. Koh Kong Province, invested by CETIC International Hydropower Development Co., Ltd.
Stung Atay Hydropower Plant
Cambodia’s fourth 120-megawatt hydroelectric plant, launched in 2014. The dam is located in the triangle area of Kampong Speu, Koh Kong and Pursat provinces (in O’Som commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province).
The Stung Atay hydropower plant is invested by C.H.D (Cambodia) Hydropower Development Co., Ltd with an installed capacity of 120 megawatts.
Russey Chrum Hydropower Plant
It is Cambodia’s fifth hydropower plant with a capacity of 338 megawatts and was commissioned in 2015. Stung Russey Chrum Krom Hydropower Project is located in Bak Klang Commune, Mondul Seima District, Koh Kong Province. China Huadian Lower Stung Russei Chrum Hydro-Electric Project (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. .
Tatai Hydropower
The 6th hydropower plant is located in Russey Chrum and Ta Tay communes, Thmar Bang district, Koh Kong province, with a capacity of 246 MW. Inaugurated on December 23, 2015 under the presidency of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia after construction began in early 2011 China National Heavy Machinery at a cost of 540 million US dollars.
Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Plant
The seventh hydropower plant in Stung Treng province provides 400 megawatts of power, a joint venture between a number of companies. Three are China’s Hydrolancang International Energy with a 51 per cent stake, Cambodia’s Royal Group with a 39 per cent stake and Vietnam’s EVNI with a 10 per cent stake. The Lower Sesan 2 hydropower plant has a total investment of nearly 800 million US dollars
