Under a plan to increase the country’s electricity supply capacity, from urban to rural, the Royal Government of Cambodia plans to build a natural gas-fired power plant with a capacity of about 3,600 megawatts by 2030.
Minister of Mines and Energy Suy Sem recently said, “Cambodia has updated its energy plan for 2020 to 2030, in which we plan to use natural gas for energy production. “A large portion of electricity, with a total capacity of 3,600 megawatts, will be operational from 2027 to 2030.”
“Cambodia’s economy is expected to recover in 2021 after a slowdown in the global epidemic of Kovid 19,” he said. “Therefore, Cambodia’s energy demand is expected to recover, with natural gas playing an important role in Cambodia’s energy mix, especially in the transport, commercial and residential industries.”
Along with supporting the plan to supply electricity to the whole country in the past, the Royal Government of Cambodia also approved the investment project of ROYAL Group of Tycoon Kith Meng to build the Lower Sesan 2 hydropower plant, stung Treng border and a new 700-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Koh Kong province with a multi-billion dollar investment. In addition to plans to build other oil-fired power plants and solar panels in provinces across the country.
