The Minister of Tourism has unveiled plans to develop new tourism products in Mondulkiri province by establishing a small floating airport on the Srepok River to increase national and international tourist attraction.
The Minister of Tourism, Dr. Thong Khon, at the third inter-ministerial committee meeting to consult on the draft draft presented the master plan for tourism development in Mondulkiri this weekend, setting out the establishment of tourism destinations. Important throughout the province, especially the potential geographical location that can attract more tourists.
“The urban area of Koh Nhek district has the potential to be an agro-tourism area, especially as a water plane on the Sre Pok River in Koh Nhek district,” he said. “Although the Srepok River is not conducive to navigation, tourism or transportation (due to the abundance of reefs), it can be set up as a floating car park like some countries that allow planes to fly to,” he said. “Tonle Sap Lake area or to Koh Rong.”
Mr. Chuk Chumnor, Director of the Tourism Product Development Department of the Ministry of Tourism, revealed that six major tourism development plans have been selected and included in the Mondulkiri Tourism Development Master Plan 2020-2035.
The six major tourist destinations include: ecotourism areas in wildlife sanctuaries, ecotourism corridors and indigenous tourism areas, Sen Monorom city area, Mondulkiri airport area in Oreang district, integration areas, border gates and urban areas of Koh Nhek district.
