In order to facilitate the travel of national and international guests, OCIC plans to invest in the construction of an air route from the new Phnom Penh International Airport to central of Phnom Penh.
According to a local website that conducted an exclusive interview with OCIC President Pung Kheav Se recently, the company is studying the project of the expressway from the new Phnom Penh Airport in Kandal Province to Phnom Penh. Construction will begin in 2021.
“This expressway project is not a highway like the road to Kampong Som, but a flyover with a total length of 21.5 kilometers and two phases,” he said.
He said that the first phase, 10 kilometers long, was built on Samdech Hun Sen Road and Road 271, and from the junction of the flyover to the National Road 2. The second phase is about 11 kilometers long, built from National Road 2 to the new Phnom Penh Airport directly.
The project will cost about 400 million US dollars, the first phase is likely to start in 2021 and is scheduled to be completed after the airport, a little after 2023.
The new air route will facilitate travel from the city to the new airport quickly and easily, with drivers able to drive at speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour.
