Individuals may have their own reason behind the immigration to Cambodia. What are the reasons to immigrate to Cambodia? This is a question that many people want to answer. When you work hard and make good money, you want to make your life better.

The first step to a better life is getting out of your current country, which is often expensive, and difficult. Or sometimes you may just want to find a peaceful place with natural beauty, beautiful landscape, and comfortable place to live or relax there. Immigration to Cambodia is required many steps, and many documents are also needed.

A Cambodian ministry working party is presently drafting a replacement law on immigration to manage foreigners within Cambodia. New Cambodian Immigration Laws may well be introduced in 2021. Immigrating to Cambodia, you’re required to have a visa.

Before moving to Cambodia, it’s best to secure visa for your staying. You’ll be able to additionally get your visa upon arrival; however, taking care of it beforehand, you won’t have to obsess about it upon arrival, which is also good and more convenience.

You can submit your visa application via mail or face to face at your nearest Cambodian diplomatic building or embassy. There are 2 main forms of visa that are available: the traveler (T) visa, and the Business (E) visa. Each of them is valid for thirty days once arrival in Cambodia.

To apply for a Cambodian visa, you are required to submit the subsequent paperwork:

  • a completed visa application
  • a passport-sized picture
  • Your passport, that should be valid for a minimum of another six months
  • Your address and return envelope which is a pre-paid one

For business visa applications you may need:

  • a letter from your company, or letter of invitation from Cambodia, supporting the requirement for you to apply for a business visa.

You will be charged a small fee twice or thrice once you apply for your visa, and when you extend your visa at the Ministry of Interior once moving to Cambodia.

If you are living abroad like in Europe and immigrate to Cambodia, of course you must apply your visa beforehand at your own country, but if you living in neighboring countries like Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, you can be able to apply for your visa at border crossing between the country.

There is a rumor that Cambodia is banned and restricted  from YouTube Advertising and Monetization.

There is a rumor that has been viral a few weeks in Cambodia disclosed that “YouTube video ads in Cambodia have been blocked, allowing local users to view only videos posted on the site without ads.”

This has become a great concern for Cambodian YouTubers (content creators) and advertisers for being interrupted in driving revenue for their businesses.

Regarding the question about the ban, a YouTube representative for Southeast Asia said that under the monetary policy of content creators in Cambodia, monitors were not allowed to monetize their videos on his channels.

“Advertisers can target their ads only to countries where YouTube has launched monetization sites,” the policy states.

The YouTube representative above could not determine why all ads were blocked on the platform.

Mr.. SOVANN, CEO of Activerify, a trusted local digital marketing company, says services such as YouTube advertising are vital to doing business in Cambodia. He said he has been using these types of ads in the country since he arrived in 2016. “For Google, Facebook or other big technology companies to take away services from Cambodia is not appropriate,” he said.

Regarding the question of whether the withdrawal of advertisements may be related to the Government Sub-Decree on Value Added Tax (VAT) for digital goods and services sold by foreign companies? “Value Added Tax (VAT) on digital goods and services is a global issue,” he said. He added that the Royal Government of Cambodia is always willing to discuss and meet with companies on such issues and would be surprised if the removal of advertisements is in line with government policy.

Chris McCarthy, CEO of MangoTango Asia, a local digital marketing company, says “Not sure what has happened to YouTube yet, but the closure is a demonstration of the power these companies have over business revenue and that is something the government should be concerned”.

While Cambodia-based YouTube videos are not eligible for monetization at all, it is also worth noting that Google Ads does not collect value added tax (VAT) in other countries in the region including Thailand.

Policy for Thailand states: “Because your Google Ads business contract is registered with Google Asia Pacific Pte Ltd. Local taxes do not apply to your Google Ads activity. “These taxes will not be shown on your invoice.”

Mr.. SOVANN noted that Google Ads is still active on websites in Cambodia.

Although it’s been rapidly catching up the last few years, Cambodia is one of the world’s cheapest places to live. The country has a reputation for being a backpacker party destination, where the main attractions are bright lights, cheap booze and a string of tropical islands. But the reality is a lot more diverse and less expensive. Away from its party scene, Cambodia is a country with an epic history, stunning beaches, and some of the most affordable and delicious food in the world. The cost of living in Cambodia for expats, however, is higher than the average Cambodian because expats must have a place to live and other expenses associated with foreigners, such as visas and food.

When it comes to rental, the quality and range can be astonishment with the affordable houses, even the rental fee of condos is not going beyond your ability, which means you can afford all those fees. In particular thing, for those who prefer to choose Western-style apartment or Khmer townhouses, flat, the fees are cheaper than the fee of condos. There are two options for expats or other people to choose, whether they want to rent a house, or buy one and become the owner of the house. The rental fees of a house and the price of house is actually different from one another. If you rent a house, you have to pay for the rental fee for every month, and the price depends on what types of house-style that you are going to choose. For condos, it costs you around thousands of dollars for a month, and for flat, it only costs hundreds of dollars per month, and you even have to pay for electricity, utilities by your own. If you buy a house, of course it costs you a lot of money, but it’s a lots easier than living in a rental house.

When it comes to utilities or electricity, they are more affordable, which you only need to pay between $15 to $100 a month. Those prices are included the cable television, your electricity used (including air-conditioner, refrigerator…), water from $2.5 to $100, garbage collection, and so on.

When it comes to foods, everything in Cambodia is cheap and healthy. Vegetables are all organic, which are grown by local people. Dining at a good value are some things that’s typically presupposed, particularly in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and other 23 provinces, where there are many restaurants that you can spot everywhere. There are many types of cuisine including Western-style or Asian-style (including, of course, Khmer) are served from $1 per course upwards.

For mobile data charge, it’s very cheap in Cambodia. You can top up your phone balance from $1 and up. If you top up $1, you can use it for at least 5 to 7 days depends on what network that you are using. For the internet, you can use it from your mobile phone, or install WIFI at home, which is a lots convenience and faster than the internet that use from phone. And it costs you around $30 upwards for a month or 3 months, and of course the price is depended on the network companies.

Even though the cost of living in Cambodia may be one of the lowest in the world, the quality and standard of living remain high. A lot of retirees and expats selecting this country as a place to relax every year.

Below are some of the monthly average budget for expats as well as local people:

  • Food & drink cost: $100 to $200
  • Rental fee for single bedroom cost: $100
  • Rental fee for more than one bedroom cost: $400
  • Utilities cost: $100
  • Transportation by tuk tuk cost: $38
  • Electricity cost: $30 to $100
  • Internet cost: $40
  • Medical & Health insurance cost: $456 for individual, and $1152 for a family.
  • Visa cost: $24

Like any other countries, In Cambodia, you can legally have only a wife, if you have more than one once you haven’t got divorced, it’s considered illegal or against the law of the country.

Getting married is the important thing that couple have to be well-considered before starting their life as a wife or a husband. In Cambodia, before the couple officially become a wife or husband, they have to celebrate their wedding at least let the mayor, elderly people of each side know about this.

Of course normally a man can have more than a wife, but he only has one official wife. In particular, if he wants to have another new wife, he has to get divorce with his previous wife, and then he can get married once again.

The wedding is the traditional ceremony in Cambodia that every couple is required to celebrate it. Usually for Cambodian, the wedding ceremony takes one and a half day, and during the wedding the bride and groom have to wear the wedding traditional clothes. The ceremony normally takes place at the bride’s house, and there are more events that each couple is required to do during their wedding day.

To celebrate the wedding not only for respecting and obeying the laws of the country, but this symbolizes that the bride and groom officially becomes a wife and husband, and no one can bother or becomes the third wheel in this marriage, unless each of them cheating secretly.

On the other hand, once there is a wedding, there will be having a divorce just sooner or later. That’s why each couple has to be fully prepared, well-considered, and make sure they can be responsible in the family.

How many wives can you have in Cambodia?

Commonly, the divorce occurs due to the fact that couple can’t live together anymore, can’t find the income to support family needed, have too much responsibility in the family, have conflict, use harsh words towards each other, cheating, and more. Those are the common problems that make couple get divorced.

Getting a divorced in Cambodia also has the process to do it, and it’s also related to the law of the country. If you ensure that you’re ready to get divorced, you have to go to the court, and it also takes ages to get done. Sometime it takes a month to get ready or more than that. If couple officially get divorced, they of course can find new partner and get married again.

Buying an established company has many benefits, the most important of which is that you can begin trading right away. When you buy an existing company, you don’t have to wait for the property to be fitted out; you can start earning money right away from your existing customer base. This usually comes at a cost (the business’s purchasing price), but if you can find a good deal, it’s always a good idea to go this route.

Step 1 – Find a business that interests you: Most reliable real estate firms have company for sale listings that you may be interested in. The current state of the business, as well as the lease and financial details, are normally included in the listings.

Step 2 – Check the lease of the current Business that you want to buy: It is better to check about Due Diligence when you set up your business. Due diligence is the examination or exercise of care that a fair company or individual is required to perform before entering into an arrangement or contract with another entity, or performing an act with a certain level of care.

Due Diligence is an important step in the process. The new owner must ensure that the current lease agreement permits the transfer of the business. Coordinate with the property owner and negotiate a new lease agreement if the existing lease does not provide for the transition to a third party. The new lease agreement could alter the rental price.

Keep in mind that before a company opens to the public, it should have gone through the process of consulting with the property owner to see if the lease can be transferred. In theory, the current business owner cannot sell the company if they are aware that the contract does not allow for the sale. It is, however, important that you double-check. Your real estate agent will help you negotiate the new lease conditions. They can also search for another venue if it isn’t negotiable. In the case of a franchise, venue or lease arrangement are not taken into account. You are free to set up shop wherever you want.

Step 3 – Sign the new lease or assignment of lease rights: Once the property owner has agreed to the lease transfer, interested parties sign a company transfer agreement. This is made possible by the real estate agency. They review the lease papers, coordinate/negotiate with the landlord, and prepare the requisite documents for signature. When you leave it to the professionals, it’s painless and hassle-free.

Check tax receipts and other contracts from suppliers if you want to keep the existing business name: The main benefit of holding the current company name is that the incorporation process is quicker, taking just 3-5 weeks on average. You’ll still keep customers who are already loyal to that specific brand or name. If you’re buying an established company, make sure the previous owner’s tax payments are current. Check for any outstanding debts with current vendors as well.

Step 5 – Hire or re-train existing staff: You have a young population of Cambodians eager to make a name for themselves, depending on the degree of revamping you decide to make on your market. The workforce is diverse; all you have to do now is find the right people.

The reason that Cambodia doesn’t have earthquakes is that the country is part of the Australian tectonic plate. But don’t be fooled by the geography class picture of the tectonic plates that shows the Australian plate covering the eastern half of the globe. The Australian plate doesn’t roll over the country; it goes around it.

Other countries in Asia is also founded that earthquake had happened too such as China. China was also shaken by a smaller earthquake. It is not yet clear what the relation between all these earthquakes might be. But some scientists claim that this area of tectonic plates is known as “earthquake alley” and that a big destructive earthquake is overdue in this area. In the meantime, the situation in Cambodia’s capital, where the majority of the people live, is calm, since the earthquake was far away from the city center.

From the past until now, Cambodia has never experienced the earthquake before thanks to its location far from the edges of tectonic plates which move and collide deep below the surface. A country that far from tectonic plate is one of the reason that earthquake doesn’t hit Cambodia.

Cambodia has suffered from typhoons and devastating floods; however, it isn’t so serious like some countries that were hit by tsunamis, and other serious natural disasters.

Location in Cambodia is a very good place to live. If you live in this country, no worry about the natural disasters, volcano eruption, tsunamis, and other serious disasters. It’s safe to live in Cambodia due to the fact that earthquake doesn’t hit this country.

However, there will still be a chance that Cambodia will be hit by earthquake, but it’s just only the prediction. As proof the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs have published a risk assessment which suggests Cambodia has at least a 20% chance of experiencing at-least a Degree VI earthquake (Degree VI earthquake is expected a magnitude 5 to 5.9 earthquake) event within the next 50 years.

Anyway currently Cambodia has never experienced any serious disasters before including earthquake, tsunami, but who knows what will happen in the future will it be happened or not? Although Cambodia has at least a 20% of hitting by earthquake in the future, but the percentage of experiencing remains low, so people should not be worried too much about it.

In Cambodia, not only best known for the most attractive travel destination, unique atmosphere, but the food is also very famous and healthy. Cambodian cuisine is well-known for its unique and bold ingredients.

We can say Cambodia is one of the countries that has rich culture and tradition, so the complexity of the ingredients is quite different from neighboring countries like in Cambodia, we tend to value the vegetables, herbs, or fish as the most important ingredients while in neighboring countries such as Vietnam or Thailand no longer value.

Each country has their own unique taste of food while in Cambodia, you might feel Cambodian cuisine is somehow very unique and different from other countries. There are some ingredients that some of you might probably not know as it’s edible and important, but people in Cambodia use it all, and value it well.

1. Prohok

Prohok: most people including foreigners or Cambodian might not like the smell of Prohok. It smells like the death fish, but it somehow tastes good. I believe that Prohok is only used in Cambodia, or mostly used by Cambodian people, and outsiders might not like the taste and smell of Prohok for sure. For this reason, Prohok makes Cambodian unique and delicious. Although it smells bad, but if you know how to clean and use it, it surely is the main ingredients that makes your food delicious. There are many kind of food that you can add Prohok like Teuk Kreoung, and we can make papaya salad with Prohok as well by converting Prohok as sauce.

2. Fruit as the ingredient

Fruit as the ingredient: people might know that fruit can only eat or drink as dessert or juice, but in Cambodia, Cambodian also uses fruits as the ingredients in making food such as mango, papaya, pineapple, and more. For mango, Cambodian tends to use it as mango salad with dry fish or smoke fish. For pineapple, they tend to stir fry it with any kind of vegetables and meat by seasoning it, and adding oyster sauce into it. With these creativity, they make Cambodian food very unique.

3. Rice

Rice: rice also makes Cambodian food different from others. In some countries like in Europe, they don’t normally eat rice for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They principally enjoy bread or fast food, unlike Cambodia. In Cambodia, people tend to eat a bowl of rice every meal, and the advantages is that it makes them full so that they can’t eat more food like fast food, which is very good for their weight and health, and rice is full of nutrient. Cambodian people always eat rice as their breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and rice can also be made as fried rice with sausage or Lok Lak, which makes it unique and delicious.

Mondulkiri is the most sparsely populated region in Cambodia, providing great opportunities to learn about Cambodia’s tribal minorities and conservation projects. Mondulkiri means ‘meeting of the hills’, which is an apt name for this wild and verdant terrain comprising rolling hills, lush rainforests and powerful waterfalls. Wild animals roam in these parts, such as bears, leopards and elephants. Despite this, sightings are limited, and you’ll be more likely to spot birdlife, monkeys and wild pigs.

Travel from Phnom Penh to Mondulkiri approximately take 7-8 hours. Mondulkiri is also the best place for who like camping, picnic with thickly forested mountains and the paradise view.  Talking about safety is quite better and no worries about thief. Here in Mondulkiri such a nice place to keep yourself safety and such a long holiday with a new experience.

Beside of jungle, it contains elephant& wild life sanctuary, zipline, green house bar, trekking and there has guide service for tour you around Mondulkiri as well. Small thing you must care and allow is about carry bag. We have a storeroom to keep any of your luggage that you don’t want to take on the tour with you.  You will need a small daypack for your clothes and a water bottle.

So please keep it in order, otherwise you will lost it. About food purchasing, Mondulkiri is full of Khmer food and really reasonable price, but here also prefer with Europe food if you wish to try with Europe food. Mondulkiri is such a place you must try and spend your vacation with a good memorable.
