Together with a QR code verification system, the initiative allows consumers to confirm the fruit’s origin before making a purchase while making it much harder for counterfeit products to enter the market.

The Bek Anlung Durian Producers and Traders Community currently consists of 162 members cultivating approximately 706 hectares of durian orchards. Together, they supply around 4,000 tonnes of durian to the market each year, making the community one of Cambodia’s most important durian producing regions.

The community was formally established through an agricultural cooperative in Stung Trang district, creating a stronger platform for growers to work together on quality control, marketing, and trademark protection. “The importance of collective brands that help communities protect against intellectual property infringement by third parties, promote agriculture and tourism, and add value to the Bek Anloung durian in the domestic market, and enable its export to foreign markets in the future,” Vichea said.
