MISTI Launches Drive to Boost Cambodia’s Business Competitiveness: What Changes for SMEs?

Cambodia is stepping up efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of its business sector through a nationwide campaign focused on quality, innovation, and regulatory compliance. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, known as MISTI, joined forces with the Association of Cambodia Investment Federation to launch the Campaign on Business Development and Product Compliance. The initiative aims to equip Cambodian enterprises with the tools they need to compete more effectively in both domestic and international markets.

MISTI Launches Drive to Boost Cambodia's Business Competitiveness

The campaign gathered nearly 2,000 entrepreneurs, manufacturers, small and medium sized enterprises, and business leaders, highlighting the government’s commitment to building a stronger and more resilient industrial sector. Rather than relying solely on low production costs, Cambodia is encouraging businesses to improve product quality, embrace innovation, and meet recognized standards that can unlock new market opportunities.

A New Direction for Cambodia’s Economic Growth

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Hem Vanndy emphasized that Cambodia’s future economic success will depend on businesses raising their standards instead of competing primarily on price.

“Compliance is not a business cost; it is a business investment,” he said. “Businesses that invest in quality, standards, accurate measurement, laboratory testing and innovation are investing in consumer confidence, stronger brands and sustainable growth.”

The minister explained that businesses embracing compliance and innovation are better positioned to build trusted brands, strengthen customer confidence, and achieve long term sustainable growth. As Cambodia’s economy continues to evolve, improving quality and productivity has become essential for businesses seeking to remain competitive in increasingly demanding markets.

Government Support for SMEs and Entrepreneurs

A key part of the campaign focuses on supporting micro, small and medium sized enterprises through a wide range of public services offered by MISTI. These services are designed to help businesses at every stage, from launching operations to expanding production and entering new markets.

The ministry is encouraging entrepreneurs to take advantage of government programs that improve productivity, enhance product quality, strengthen compliance through Cambodia’s National Quality Infrastructure, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and expand market access both locally and internationally.

By creating a stronger support ecosystem, the government hopes to enable Cambodian businesses to overcome barriers that often limit growth while encouraging higher standards across the country’s industrial sector.

Simplifying Compliance Through Digital Services

To make regulatory compliance more accessible, MISTI is also modernizing its public services through digital transformation. Streamlined procedures are expected to reduce administrative burdens and make it easier for businesses to comply with national standards.

According to Minister Hem Vanndy, these improvements will allow enterprises to focus more on innovation and expansion while ensuring their products meet quality requirements that strengthen their competitiveness in regional and global markets.

The ministry believes that easier access to digital services will encourage more businesses to formalize operations, improve production processes, and increase their ability to compete with international manufacturers.

Supporting Cambodia’s Vision 2050

The Campaign on Business Development and Product Compliance forms part of MISTI’s broader strategy to strengthen Cambodia’s industrial competitiveness and create a more innovation driven economy.

The initiative supports the Royal Government’s Vision 2050, which seeks to transform Cambodia into a resilient, high value economy built on science, technology, innovation, productivity, and sustainable industrial development. By investing in quality, compliance, and innovation today, Cambodian businesses are expected to play a central role in driving the country’s long term economic growth.

Conclusion

The launch of MISTI’s Campaign on Business Development and Product Compliance marks another important milestone in Cambodia’s economic transformation. By encouraging businesses to prioritize quality, innovation, productivity, and compliance, the government is laying the foundation for stronger industries and greater global competitiveness. With continued support for entrepreneurs and SMEs, Cambodia is positioning itself to build a more resilient economy capable of creating higher value products and expanding into international markets.
